Simon Bize has long been a favorite producer of mine, since the first time I visited in early 2000. Based in the village of Savigny-lès-Beaune, Chez Bize has always been known for its well-balanced, terroir-focused expressions, as shown not only in its red wines but also in its underrated white wines. Chisa Bize took over after the untimely passing of Patrick Bize, and the domaine has always been in good hands, with winemaking help from Guillaume Bott and his wife, Tomoko (who have their own domaine in Chanterêves), and now their son, Hugo.
Chicago just received a long overdue allocation of these wines, from multiple vintages. PWS received 12 different wines, in minuscule quantities, 10 reds and 2 whites, all focused on the terroir of Savigny-lès-Beaune. Another interesting note is that these represent back vintages that had long been due to the Chicago market, including 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021.
This tasting will feature all 12 wines I received. Let's open them and taste them! Those who attend the tasting will also have the first chance to purchase what was received, and many of my allocations of these wines are mere bottles, not cases.
This will be an epic producer profile tasting and a deep study of Savigny-lès-Beaune!
